Sarah Lynn Welch

Sarah Lynn (Ward) Welch went to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 9, 2021.  Sarah Lynn “Ward” Welch was born August 23, 1933 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Roy and Ruth Ward.

Sarah and her family moved to East St. Louis, Illinois at an early age.  It was here where she met her future husband Bill E. Welch.  They were blessed with seven children.  They were a military family and as such traveled to different posts in the US and one tour of Germany.

Upon their retirement from the Army the family set up their roots in Hope Mills.  Sarah wore many hats in her life, Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend. However, the hat she wore most proudly was that of mother.

Sarah was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles, as well as jigsaw puzzles.  Anytime you would visit her there was always a stack of crossword books on her table.  Along with her books you can be sure there was a bag of candy.  She was just like her tooth “SWEET”.

In her later years she found great comfort being outside feeding her birds and squirrels.  Anytime you called her or went to her house and she did not answer you would find her outside taking care of her friends.  She also enjoyed tending to her flower and plants.

Although maybe not her hobby she was well known for her cooking especially chicken and dumplings, wilted lettuce, banana pudding, baked beans and many other delicious dishes.

Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Bill E. Welch, son Raymond Welch, daughter Cynthia Clark, parents Roy and Ruth Ward, sister Lona Debra, brothers Roy “Corky” Ward and Carl “Butch” Ward.

Sarah is survived by Sisters Ruth Ann Ward and Deborah and Bruce Hicks, children Louis and Betty Welch, Becky and Jurgen White, Bill and Debbie Welch, Michael Welch and Anthony Hunt, and Carla Welch.

Grandchildren Lavon Kaylor, Jurgen E. White II, Jamie Herring, Leslie Salazar, Gregory White, Louis Welch, Tori Vitt, and Dustin Griffin.

Great Grandchildren Kayla White, Kendall Jones, Cheyenne Griffin, Dustin Griffin Jr., Brianna Griffin, Hayden Vitt, Eli Vitt, Sadie Rae Vitt, Grayson Vitt and Ella Salazar.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Bethany United Methodist Church from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm.

Lastly to our sweet Mother fly on and you will be forever loved and in our hearts.
