Bernard Vann

Allen Bernard Vann, 73, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

He was born in Piney Grove Township, Sampson County on January 3, 1947 to the late Henry and Helen Vann.

Bernard leaves behind his son, Allen Bernard Vann, Jr. and wife Valerie of Wilmington; granddaughters, Logan and Chloe Vann; brothers, Ennis Vann and wife Gloria of Fayetteville, Eddie Vann and wife Leslie of Fort Mill, SC, and Lamont Vann and wife Annedore of Wade and numerous nieces and nephews.  Bernard always shared how proud he was of his son’s family and especially his granddaughters.

As a young man, Bernard served in the National Guard for several years.  He took much pride in his work, as well as, his extreme hard work ethic.  Most of his career was devoted to his business, Bernard Vann Grading and Utility.  Through the years he earned much respect for the work he performed and was always recognized as being one of the best in his field.  After more than forty years of dedication to his own company, he decided it was time to retire; however, this was short lived.  Working provided him with a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment. As a result, he took a job as a supervisor with EHC (Environmental Hydrogeological Consultants) out of Red Springs, NC.  Once this occurred, it was obvious that he had a newfound happiness in being productive and truly making a difference for the crew and the company as a whole.  He often spoke of his work family and how much he enjoyed working with EHC.

Throughout the years, everyone knew Bernard as a free spirit that loved life whether watching the races, pitching in to help a friend in need, riding his Harley with his buddies, or deep-sea fishing.  He sought after opportunities to ride the roads and discover all that life had to offer.  In addition, it was obvious that his attendance to the Freedom Biker Church in Fayetteville a few short years ago made a huge impact on his life, and for this, our family is eternally grateful.

Friends are welcome to pay their respects from noon to 6pm on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service.  A private family service is planned.

To honor the memory of Bernard, please consider making a donation to the American Diabetes Association or Freedom Biker Church in Fayetteville, NC.
