William "Bill" Norman, born on July 1, 1938, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, passed away on November 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A revered figure, William's life was marked by dedication to his community and an unwavering commitment to his family. He graduated from Fayetteville High School and went on to build a remarkable career, retiring from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDot) after decades of service.
William was a man of many talents and interests. Known for his friendly demeanor and great sense of humor, he had the unique ability to connect with anyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on all. His reputation as someone who “never met a stranger” speaks volumes about his warm personality and the love he garnered from those around him. In addition to his engaging nature, he had a remarkable knack for fixing things, leading him to spend countless hours working on projects in his shed, particularly with vehicles and lawnmowers.
William is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Susan Norman, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they cultivated a household filled with warmth and laughter, raising two cherished sons, Daniel Norman (Erin) and David Norman (Kelly). His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Jackson, Logan, and Courtney, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his brothers, Mark Chandler, Michael Chandler, and Phillip Chandler, along with his sister, Lynn Melton. William will be deeply missed not only by his family but by a wide circle of friends whose lives he touched with kindness.
In addition to his immediate family, he is remembered by those who knew him well, including his siblings who have passed, James Norman (Jim), John Christopher Norman, Barry Norman, and sister, Sharon Chandler. Their memories remain a cherished part of William’s story.
