William Wade Craft

William Wade Craft, known to many as Bill, passed away on September 4, 2026, at Moore Regional Hospital. He was 87 years old.

Born on March 23, 1939, in Roanoke, Virginia, Bill lived a long and steady life marked by devotion to his work, loyalty to those he loved, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple and enduring pleasures. He spent 55 years as an accountant in the hospitality industry, a remarkable career that reflected both diligence and commitment. His professional life was one of constancy and purpose, and after many decades of faithful service, he retired in 2010.

Beyond his work, Bill found joy in the things that brought peace and renewal. He loved spending time at the beach, gardening, and reading, interests that spoke to his thoughtful nature and his enjoyment of both beauty and quiet reflection. He was also a member of Hay Street Methodist Church and a member of WV Tourism, connections that formed an important part of his life and community.

Bill will be remembered most dearly by those who shared in his life. He is survived by his life companion and roommate, John Hiles, whose companionship was a meaningful and treasured part of his days. He is also survived by his sons, Scott Craft, Chris Craft, and Tim Craft, who carry forward his name and memory. He is further survived by his brother, Gene West, and Gene’s wife, Wanda West, as well as by his sister, Sue Rocha. In the lives of his family and loved ones, Bill leaves a lasting presence, one shaped by years of shared experience, affection, and enduring bonds.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Hayden Craft, and his mother, Thelma Carnes. Their memory remained part of the story of his life, and now he rests with those who went before him.

Bill’s life was one of perseverance, faith, and quiet enjoyment. He will be remembered with love by his family, by those who worked alongside him, and by all who knew him as a man of commitment and gentle pleasures. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn him and gratitude to those who were blessed to know him.
