U.S. Army Ret. MSG William “Bill” McNeely, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died Thursday, July 6, 2017 in the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home. Bill was a brave and loyal soldier, a Viet Nam Veteran and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service.
He was born in Logan, West Virginia on August 13, 1933 to William and Virginia Milam McNeely. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Harold McNeely and two sisters, Bonnie Milliren and Jean Trent.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Joann McNeely of Fayetteville, NC; sisters Joyce Crabtree of Columbus, Ohio and Margie Hamrick of Winfield, AL; sons, Michael McNeely of Norfolk, VA, Rick McNeely (Karen) of Decherd, TN, Rusty McNeely (Victoria) of Estill Springs, TN; daughter, Melodee Moreland (Mark) of Estill Springs, TN; stepson, Michael Cockburn of Sanford, NC; stepdaughter, Karen Godwin of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Anja McNeely, Jonathan McNeely, Justin McNeely, Trenton McNeely, Bryce Moreland, Mark Peyton Moreland, Ashley Haire, Jessica Kringel, and Lauren Petty; great-grandchildren, Garrett Kringel, Raegan Kringel, Aidan Petty and London Petty.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at Reilly Road Community Church, 7502 Ascot Avenue, Fayetteville, NC. The Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM at the Reilly Road Community Church. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC.
