US Army Ret. LTC Anne Spencer Mizelle

US Army LTC (Ret.) Anne Spencer Mizelle was born on June 12, 1929 to Sadie and Walter Mizelle in Williamston, NC.   She departed this life peacefully on July 26, 2018.  Anne attended the public schools in Williamston and graduated from Williamston High School in 1948.  She went on to nursing school at Norfolk General Hospital where she earned her designation as a Registered Nurse.

Anne commissioned into the US Army Nurse Corps as a Lietenant following graduation from nursing school.  She began her Army training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and served at a variety of duty stations including Germany, France, Puerto Rico, Fort Jackson, SC and the former Army base at Fort Ord in Monterey County, California.  Ann pursued additional training during her service and retired as a Lt. Colonel.

As a pediatric nurse, Anne was part of a team that assured soldiers and their families that their children would be well cared for during a soldier’s deployment or every day life on a military base.  She exercised her craft with great skill and love.

Anne Mizelle is best known by her friends as a true lover of dogs.  She had dogs her entire life and is survived by Oliver, her beloved standard poodle.  She was a true humanitarian and sought to right any wrongs she perceived in our society.  She longed and prayed for world peace.

Anne will be laid to rest in the Memorial Garden of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, her long time church home in Fayetteville.  Services are at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 1601 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC.  In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at the above address or to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society https://www.fapspet.org/ .
