Thomas Landy McDuffie, Jr, 93, of Fayetteville passed away on January 1, 2026.
He was born on March 4, 1932, in Stanly County, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Landy McDuffie and Bessie Mae Teal McDuffie. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a source of lifelong pride. He earned his undergraduate degree from Pfeiffer College in 1959 and later received a master’s degree from the University of Virginia.
Thomas spent much of his professional career as a banker, where he was respected for his integrity, sound judgment, and dedication. Later in life, he followed an entrepreneurial path, leaving banking to establish a residential construction company, where his leadership and strong work ethic continued to shine.
Outside of work, Thomas enjoyed the game of golf, cherished time spent on the course, and loved spending time at Carolina Beach, a place that brought him boating, relaxation and many fond memories. He was also known for his great sense of humor and quick wit, always ready with a smile or a well-timed joke. He was an avid fan of both UNC sports and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia McDuffie; his daughter, Lori Clark; his son, Thomas “Tripp” McDuffie III, and daughter-in-law, Gretchen McDuffie; his grandchildren, Davis McDuffie, Drew McDuffie, and Bethany Almond; his great-granddaughter, Aspen Almond; his sisters, Nancy and Sylvia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Cameron Willis Clark, and son-in-law David Willis Clark.
Thomas will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a man of service and integrity; and someone whose warmth, humor, and love of family and life left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
The family will welcome friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral service on Sunday, January 11, 2026. A funeral service will follow at 2pm in the chapel. A private burial with military honors will be conducted at a later date.
Services are entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory, 610 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
