Stuart Bennett Dixon

Stuart Bennett Dixon, known affectionately as "Stu" and fondly called "Big Daddy" by his grandchildren and close friends, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. Born on September 23, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Stuart led a life marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep commitment to both his family and his career.

A proud graduate of the University of Arkansas, class of 1961, Stuart earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His professional journey was distinguished and multifaceted. He began by owning the Lincoln Mercury dealership in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he established a reputation for integrity and excellence. Upon selling the dealership, he continued his career at Western Kentucky Gas in Owensboro, serving as a senior marketing executive, contributing significantly to the company's successes.

In 1989, Stuart was hired by NC Natural Gas, where his leadership and expertise led to his promotion as Vice President of Government Relations. His tenure at NC Natural Gas was marked by commitment and achievement until his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of professional respect and accomplishment.

Beyond his career, Stuart was a cherished family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betsy Dixon of the home; his son, Phillip Dixon of Atlanta, Georgia; stepson, Hughes Hamilton Rice III of Tampa, Florida; and stepdaughter, Margaret Rice of Daytona Beach, Florida. Stuart’s affection and guidance were felt deeply by his three grandchildren, Taylor Murphy, Lindsay Butts, and Brandon Haire as well as his two great-grandchildren, all of whom held him in the highest esteem. The family mourns the loss of his son, Randall Dixon, and his brother, Richard Dixon, who had preceded him in death.

A visitation to honor Stuart’s memory will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19th, at St. John's Episcopal Church in the Kyle House. This will be followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary at 3 p.m., where family, friends, and community members will gather to celebrate his life and legacy.

Stuart Bennett Dixon’s life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and leadership. He will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the warmth and love he shared with those closest to him. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
