Shirley Taylor Britt

Shirley Taylor Britt, 91, of Fayetteville, NC, beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many died in Rome, GA on Dec 23, 2017 after a long illness.  She was born April 26, 1926 at home near Barnesville, GA and is the widow of the late Clayton Britt.  She is survived by her 4 children and their spouses:  Sandy Benton (Barry), Cheryl Kawazoe (Howard), Ricky Britt (Tammy) and John Britt (Angie) and her brother Jim Taylor and his wife, Ruth, of Virginia.  She is the grandmother of 7 grandchildren (Carmen, Todd, David, Jamie, Chris, Becca and Julianne) and 7 great grandchildren (Tori, Aaron, Parker, Aidan, Peyton, Ian and Arthur).

Shirley graduated from Fayetteville High School, 1943 and was a member of the 2nd Baptist Church of Fayetteville for 76 years.  Her life was all about family and faith.  She loved the Lord and served Him all of her life.  As an active member of 2nd Baptist, she was a Sunday school teacher, WMU leader, VBS leader and the list goes on. She was always looking forward to the time when the earth will be made new and she will meet her Savior in the sky.

She counted her children as “the greatest treasure of my life”.  She showed her children and friends how to live the Christian life.  She was kind and loving to all she met, always looked for the best in others.  While the children grew up, she worked for Pilot Life Insurance Co. and later as a teller in a bank.  In her senior years she volunteered at Cape Fear Hospital for many years carrying flowers and cards to patients, guiding visitors and working in the gift shop.  In addition, traveling was her hobby.  She made many trips by bus, ship and air with friends around the US and foreign countries.  In those days, she always had her “go button” on as she would say.

The family will receive visitors at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Home at 12:30 to 1:30 pm on Jan 19th, immediately followed by the memorial service in the chapel.  Burial will be at LaFayette Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the 2nd Baptist Church, 522 Person St, Fayetteville, NC 28301, ph:  910-483-6690
