SGM (Ret) Harvey Lee Burns

Harvey L. Burns, 90, Fayetteville, died on Saturday, February 6, 2021.

Harvey had many titles throughout his time with us that we need to reference in his celebration of life: Harbey, Brother, Dad, Daddy, Diddybo, Daddyo, Granddaddy, Great Granddaddy, Caregiver, Sergeant Major, Vietnam Vet, Green Beret, Paratrooper, Special Forces, Teacher, Volunteer and the list goes on. 

Harvey was born in Mississippi and joined the military so he could see the world. He proudly served his country for more than 24 years. He went on to teach JROTC, prepare taxes through HR Block and volunteered at the U.S Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum.

He was married to Bettie for 56 years until her passing in 2007.  He is survived by three daughters, Brenda, Tania and Jody; five grandchildren, Kevin, Cherissee, Wally, Sheli and April; a sister, Warrene, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc.  He was preceded in death by his son, David. His love of God, Family and Service were unwavering.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service in Fayetteville. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the funeral home.
