Listen to Obituary

Sandra Ann Scheer, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away on April 21, 2026, leaving behind a tapestry of rich memories woven through her eighty-six vibrant years. Born on July 17, 1939, in Alton, Illinois, Sandy’s journey was marked by a radiant spirit and an enduring commitment to those she loved.

For more than three and a half decades, Sandy dedicated herself to the Florida State Chemistry Department, a place where her passion for learning flourished and where she forged friendships that stretched far beyond the confines of work. Her heart was as much invested in her relationships as it was in her daily tasks, and the laughter and warmth she shared with coworkers became a hallmark of her professional life.

Sandy was a beacon of kindness, her smile ever-present and her laughter infectious. A prankster at heart, she delighted in bringing joy and lightness wherever she went. She was an avid reader and a seeker of knowledge, always eager to learn something new—whether delving into complex coloring designs, solving puzzles, or immersing herself in the depths of the Bible through her cherished bible studies. Indeed, her baptism stood as one of her proudest accomplishments, a testament to her faith and devotion.

Her hobbies painted a vivid picture of her vibrant soul: time spent crocheting and knitting, enjoying beach bunko with treasured friends, exploring the mountains she loved so dearly, and sharing moments of joy and companionship with her circle. Surrounded by the laughter and love of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Sandy’s family was the jewel of her heart—a truth she never hesitated to proclaim proudly.

She was a loving spouse of a Marine husband. In every chapter of her life, from her childhood in Alton to her days in North Carolina, she carried the values of loyalty, warmth, and a zest for life.

Sandy is survived by her beloved children, Douglas Albl (Lisa) and Karin Gray (Kenny); her cherished grandchildren, Tamara Gray, Cole Gray (Kali), and Avery Albl; her devoted siblings, Everett Boyd (Valerie), Harris Boyd (Debbie), Linda Huey, and Kathy Gunter; 3 step children, Gina Dugger, Mike Mazella, Donna Tucker; 7 great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Albl, her sister, Dee Sellers, and her step daughter, Diane DeChello whose memories also live on in the family’s embrace.

A visitation to honor Sandy will be held on April 25, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Cedar Falls Baptist Church, located at 6181 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC. Following this, a memorial service will commence at 2:00 PM in the same place, providing a sacred space for friends and family to gather, celebrate, remember a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring faith in her Homecoming.

Sandra Ann Scheer's legacy is one of untiring affection, boundless curiosity, and the radiant light of a woman who truly lived with her heart wide open. Her story is etched in the souls of those who knew her and will endure in the joyful echoes of her laughter and the gentle glow of her smile.
