Salvatore "Sal" Dauro, 93, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025. He was born on June 25, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Pasquale and Angelina Scuniamello. A proud veteran, Sal honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he went on to a dedicated career as an Engineer for Verizon, where his sharp mind and hard work were hallmarks of his professional life.
Sal was a man of many talents and vibrant passions. Although his roots were in New York, he was a devoted and avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He found great joy in staying active, whether he was playing a match of tennis or expressing his spirit through singing and dancing. His quieter moments were filled with creativity and intellectual curiosity; he was a talented oil painter, a frequent reader, and a dedicated enthusiast of crossword puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Thomas De Angelo and Joseph Savastiano. Sal’s legacy of love and character remains with his family. Left to cherish Sal’s memory is his beloved wife, Ana Maria Morales-Dauro; his children, Michael Dauro and wife Rachel, Christina Dauro and husband Daniel, and Shirley Barravecchio; and his four cherished grandchildren, James Barravecchio, Brooklyn Fusco, Hudson Fusco, and Oona Dauro.
The family welcomed friends for a time of remembrance from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service. A memorial service with military honors followed at 2:00 pm at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate.
