Patricia Stockdale Howard
FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs.Patricia Stockdale Howard, 86, of Fayetteville, went home to be with her Lord, on Monday, March 25, 2024, peacefully in her sleep.
Patricia was born to Patrick J and Coralie B Leonard on New Years Day, 1938 in Albemarle, NC. She grew up downtown Charleston, SC. Her father taught her to play the cornet, and playing the trumpet became her path in life. Patsy attended College at the best music program available at the time, at the University of Arizona. There she met her husband, fellow trumpeter, Phil Stockdale. They moved to Charleston, SC, and both taught music at her father's studio, the Leonard School of Music. Later in Fayetteville, NC, Pat taught band at Alexander Graham Jr High School. Phil passed in 1997. Patsy then remarried and enjoyed spending her leisure time with her husband Bill in the 11th NC Regiment Band, Bavarian Brass Band, Christmas Brass Band, and the Fayetteville Symphony, and various church performances around Fayetteville. Later, both sons picked up trumpet in school bands. John is a guitar/music instructor (30 yrs) and performer. Her grandaughter Maralee is an accomplished classical pianist, performer, and middle school band director. Both grandkids play piano and other instruments, rounding up five generations of musicians in her family, including all her nephews from her brothers' side of the family. Patsy was always a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 2 pm in Sullivan's Highland Chapel with Rev. Floyd Benfield presiding. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 pm until 2 pm at the funeral home.
Pat is survived by her loving husband, Bill Howard; two sons, Mike Stockdale and John Stockdale, both of Charleston, SC; one granddaughter, Maralee Barela and husband Jason; two great grandchildren, Coralie and Karmen; a stepson, Bill Howard and stepdaughter, Barbara Howard both of Sunman, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Stockdale and brother, Danny Leonard.
