Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Gentry Hood
Sara Elizabeth Gentry Hood, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday June 12, 2016. Mrs. Hood was born in Lillington, NC, on December 14th, 1919 to the late Byrd Pleasant Gentry and Elizabeth Taylor Pittard Gentry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Acrill Hood, and her sister, Agnes Taylor Gentry. She is survived by four daughters: Agnes Gentry Hood Cherry (William) of Wilson, Elizabeth Myatt Hood Kivette of Boone, Sara Scott Hood of Blowing Rock, and Perry Jane Hood Olive of Fayetteville.
Her grandchildren include Elizabeth Gentry Robinson Buchan (Sanborn) of Wilson, Jane Scott Pearl Robinson of Wilson, Thomas Clay Robinson (Catherine), of Durham, Elizabeth Langley Kivette Moretz (Drew), of Raleigh, Henry Hood, of New York City, Susanna Scott Kivette of Asheville, Allison Magerstadt Olive of Raleigh, Austin Hood Olive (Kathryn), of Charlotte, Hillary Scott Prevost of Boone, and Thomas Crawford Prevost (Kaitlin) of Boone.
Her great grandchildren are Thomas Sanborn Buchan, George Ruffin Moretz, Sawyer Glenn Moretz, Helen Myatt Moretz, Mary Elizabeth Ann Prevost and Hudson MacKay Olive.
Those that knew Mrs. Hood will remember her zeal, her wit and her love of sports, especially the North Carolina Tar Heels. In her later years, Mrs. Hood remained steadfastly devoted to her family and her wide circle of friends. The family will be forever grateful for her special friend, Doris Roundtree who helped Mrs. Hood to live each and every day to the fullest. The family is also grateful for Lakeita Smith and Cape Fear Valley Hospice Care for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Highland Presbyterian Church, 111 Highland Avenue, Fayetteville, NC 28305 or to a charity of one’s choice. A memorial service will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16th, 2016. A visitation will follow the service.
