Mrs. Laura Meares
Laura Meares, 93, of Fayetteville, passed away on January 16, 2017, at Autumn Care Nursing Facility of Fayetteville.
She was born in Tampa, FL on November 26, 1923 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Pearl Russell. She was predeceased by her son, Jeff Meares.
In the 1960’s Laura found success on the golf course, winning several championships. During the 70’s she developed Rheumatoid Arthritis which forced her to retire from golfing and led to her serious study of the Bible. She influenced many of her Sunday School classmates to become closer to God. She loved her family and her church.
Laura is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Sam; granddaughter, Stacie Cooper of Raleigh; 1 niece; 1 nephew; and good friend, Nikki Sessoms.
A memorial service is planned for 11 am on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Hay Street United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. David Blackman. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 10 am to 11 am.
