Mrs. Jewel Pope Houston
Mrs. Jewel Pope Houston, 83, of Fayetteville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.
She was born on October 16, 1932 in Sampson County, NC to the late Henry Pope and Emma Pearl Beard Pope.
She was a longtime member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. She retired as the Director of the American Red Cross in 1976. She went on to work for Fort Bragg Schools and Cumberland County School System before retiring.
She was preceded in death by a son, U.S. Army MSG Arnold E. Houston, III.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold E. Houston, Jr. of the home; one daughter, Karen Houston of Fayetteville, NC; a daughter-in-love, Teresa Hyatt Houston of Conway, SC; a grandson, Matthew Houston of Conway, SC.
The family will receive friends in the Gathering Hall of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 in Snyder Memorial Baptist Church Sanctuary with Rev. Bruce Herrmann and Dr. Larry Dickens officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church Military Ministry or Music Ministry 701 Westmont Dr. Fayetteville, NC 28305.
