Mary went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 8, 2026.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John “Turk” and Francis McFadyen, her sister Ann M Welch and her husband John and an unborn grandchild.She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Fred, sons William (Natalie) and John (Michelle) and their children. She was a loving wife and mother who always put the needs and wants of her family before her own.Mary’s great love of children led to her career of over 20 years as a teacher’s assistant at Cliffdale Elementary School. She also served over 40 years in various ministries at Reilly Road Presbyterian Church.Mary never met a stranger and treated everyone she encountered as if they were a member of the family. She graced hundreds of friends each year with greeting cards to let them know she was thinking of them.Mary battled ALS for several years with the same grace and dignity that endeared her to those who knew and loved her. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the NC ALS Society (ALS United), 4 N. Blount St., Ste. 200, Raleigh, 27601 or Reilly Road Presbyterian Church, 208 S. Reilly Rd., Fayetteville, 28314.A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 13 at 11 am at Reilly Road Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Henry Cowan officiating. The family continues to receive friends at their home.
