Mark Eric Scholz, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on October 2, 2026. He was born on September 2, 1967, at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg.
He graduated from Fayetteville Academy, class of 1986, and held both a pilot's license and a general contractor's license.
Mark built his life around hard work, family, and service to others. He worked in the family business, Hallmark Spa & Pools, and was serving as president of the company. Through his work, he became known as someone who was deeply intentional and thorough with his customers. He cared about their needs and wants, and he worked diligently to make sure his promises were kept and that things were done right the first time.
His commitment to helping others extended far beyond the office. By the end of this year Mark will reach 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, Hallmark Pool Supplies, which he used to help and inform customers around the world about their pool needs. He shared his knowledge generously, and his willingness to teach reflected the same care and integrity that guided every part of his work.
Those who knew Mark will remember a man devoted to the people he loved. He was a family man—a devoted husband, loving father, thoughtful son, and considerate brother. He was funny and kindhearted, faithful, giving, and loyal. Mark was always willing to help, whether at home, at work, or for a friend or family member in need. He was known as a very hard worker who paid the utmost attention to detail, so much so that he was a perfectionist, and he was a man of his word.
Mark also brought creativity and passion to the everyday things he loved. He took great pride in his yard and its appearance. He was artistic and gifted with his hands, able to draw or build anything, and was admired as a true craftsman. He also loved listening to music, and those simple joys were part of the life he built with care and intention.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart of 39 years, Sheila Scholz, who shared his life and love. Also, surviving are his children, Zachary Scholz and Lauren Smith and her husband, Drayton; his mother, Renate Scholz; sister, Yvonne Renee Scholz; and his dog, Boo Boo Bear; cats, Pibbles and Maple; and his granddog, Moosey and grandcat, Snowball.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Scholz, and by his father, Raymond Paul Scholz.
Mark will be remembered for his generosity, his steady character, his craftsmanship, and the sincere care he gave to his family, his work, and all who depended on him. His life leaves a lasting impression on those who knew him and on the many people he helped, both personally and through his work.
A service to celebrate Mark's life will be held Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11 am at Sullivan's Highland Chapel. The burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park West on Raeford Road. The family will receive friends the evening before on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
