Mark D. Blanton

Mr. Mark Douglas Blanton, 66, of Fayetteville, left the better place to be in the best place on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Mark was the sixth child born to Evelyn and Bill Blanton who always knew he was number one from the bottom up and was grateful to have a family dynamic that included loving parents, two big sisters, and three big brothers.

Mark was competitive in nature and always enjoyed being outdoors and near the water. Many of Mark’s fondest memories included snow skiing, water skiing, golf, and fishing. Anytime Mark could be at Lake Tillery with the sun shining on his face, it was a good time as this was truly Mark’s happy place.

Mark immensely enjoyed many years of employment with Powers-Swain Chevrolet where he made many close friends and created Cape Fear Team Corvette which brought him much joy.  Mark enjoyed supporting his community by his involvement with the Santa’s Helpers Skate Party benefiting Falcon Children’s Home. Mark was often quick with an awkward joke, to offer a helping hand and assistance to others in need, he will be remembered for his huge heart.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 1:30 pm at Camp Ground United Methodist Church with Revs. Sarah Pitts and David Wade presiding.  The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church.

Mark is survived by his wife, Wendy Blanton; son, Matthew Blanton; mother, Evelyn Blanton; four siblings, David Blanton and wife Alice, Dyann Croteau, Marilyn Hutson and husband Bob, and Durant Blanton; eleven nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Blanton; father, Nathan “Bill” Blanton; and brother, Michael Blanton.

Mark loved his Camp Ground church family and was always grateful for them.  The love they have shown him, and our family over the years, has always brought us comfort.

Memorials may be made to either Falcon Children's Home or Camp Ground United Methodist Church.
