Listen to Obituary

Louise Cooper Goodman passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026, surrounded by loved ones .

Born on November 11, 1940, to John and Margaret Cooper, Louise was the youngest of three children. From an early age, she was known for her sweet nature, gentle heart, and quiet, steadfast faith in Christ. Throughout her life, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness and welcoming spirit touched the lives of all those around her.

In 1967, Louise married the love of her life, Marshal John Goodman. Their marriage was filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories that continued until Marshal’s passing in 2019. Together, they built a beautiful life and were devoted parents to their daughter, Heather, whom they lovingly raised to know and follow Christ.

Louise had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and at ease. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and easygoing nature made time spent with her a comfort and a joy. She treasured her family above all else, and her grandsons, Alex and Chris, were a constant source of pride and happiness. The arrival of her great-granddaughter, Emma Louise, brought her a special joy and made her face light up with love in her final days here on earth.

Louise attended Worth’s Business School in Fayetteville and began her career as a secretary with the Fort Bragg schools. She later joined the City of Fayetteville, where she worked as a secretary in Community Development until her retirement. A dedicated and diligent employee, she built many lasting friendships throughout her years of service.

Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshal John Goodman; her parents, John and Margaret Cooper; her sister, Jessie Mae Smith; and her brother, John Marks Cooper.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter, Heather Adams (Brian); her grandsons, Alexander (Emily) and Christopher Smingler; and her precious great-granddaughter, Emma Louise Smingler. She is also survived by her nieces, Debbie Cooper and Ann Jackson; her nephew, John William Cooper; and more great-nephews and great-nieces.

Louise’s life was a beautiful reflection of her faith, her love for her family, and her gentle spirit. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the memories she leaves behind will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
