 SGM US Army (Ret.) Leland Murray Potter, 97, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022.  Leland was born on September 30, 1925 in Greene County to the late Artie Benjamin Potter and Hattie Waters Potter. 

Leland proudly served his country in WWII, Korea, and the Vietnam War as a construction engineer and air traffic controller.  He was awarded a Bronze Star and many other commendations during his thirty-one years of service. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Grace Potter, a son, CW3 Randal B. Potter, and by his brothers, Harold Potter and Carin Potter. 

He is survived by his children, Murray F. Potter and wife Jenny of Wake Forest, Lynwood A. Potter and wife Sherry of Jacksonville, FL, Dianne P. Ford and husband Vernon of Clermont, GA, Debbi Potter and husband Jack Bazemore of Mount Ulla, and Steven M. Potter and wife Bonnie of Henderson; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. 

The family will receive visitors at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 9:30 to 11:30am.  A funeral service will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm. 

Services are entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
