Larry Geddie McPhail, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, at the Hock Family Pavilion, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 8, 1940, in Eastover, North Carolina, Larry lived a life marked by quiet dedication, hard work, and deep love for his family.

Larry spent his professional career as an engineer for GTE, where his commitment and expertise left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the projects he undertook. Beyond his career, Larry found great joy in collecting antiques alongside his wife, a shared passion that enriched their many years together. He also cherished fishing and was an enthusiast of antique automobiles, pursuits that reflected his appreciation for tradition and history.

He was best known for his quiet demeanor, steadfast work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family, which he regarded as his proudest accomplishment. Larry’s love and care shaped the lives of those closest to him, emblematic of a life well lived in service to others.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Rita McPhail; his daughters, Toni Russ and her husband Lee, and Amy Jannetta and her husband Ernest; and his cherished grandchildren, Marisa Jannetta and Haiden Jannetta, along with his extended family and close friends. Their lives were deeply enriched by his presence and love throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert McPhail; his mother, Margaret Smith McPhail; and his brother, James Douglas McPhail. Their memories remain a treasured part of his story and the foundation of his family’s heritage.

A graveside service to honor and remember Larry will be held on April 13, 2026, from 1:00 PM at Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery, located at 4100 Old Bluff Church Rd, Godwin, North Carolina 28344. Family, friends, and all who knew him are invited to gather and pay their respects in this peaceful setting.
