Kum Cha Vela

Kum Cha Vela, born on May 6, 1955, in Korea, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Known for her beautiful spirit, Kum Cha had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around her. Her warmth and unwavering love touched the hearts of many, making her a cherished presence in their lives.

An excellent wife, mother, and grandmother, Kum Cha excelled in nurturing her family with kindness and affection. She is survived by her loving husband, Gabriel Vela, Jr., who admired her deeply, and her daughters, Sofia Rauter and Sonia Vela, who carry forward the values and love she instilled in them. Kum Cha was a proud grandmother to Liam Rauter, Hannah Rauter, and Casey Vela, each of whom brought boundless joy to her life.

In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a brother, sisters, and other close family members, all of whom will remember her as a beacon of love and happiness. Kum Cha cultivated relationships that enriched her life and the lives of everyone around her; she truly loved everyone and was beloved in return.

A funeral service honoring Kum Cha Vela will be held on September 9, 2025, at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service located at 610 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. The service will begin at 4:00 PM.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Kum Cha's legacy of love, joy, and unity will continue to resonate throughout her family and the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
