Mrs. Katie Ruth Cowart Altman, 91, of Fayetteville, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 26, 2024.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. Chaplain Bill McCoy will preside.
Katie was born May 16, 1932, in Richmond County, NC, to the late Daniel Franklin McDuffie and Nettie Gordon McDuffie. She was a longtime member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and even worked as the church secretary. She retired from Sears after more than 25 years of service.
Above all, Katie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Katie is survived by her two sons, David and Richard Cowart; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Dixon and Edna Matterson; and four brothers, Auley, Don, Mike, and Larry McDuffie.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Floyd J. “Arkie” Cowart and Everett “Bill” Altman; daughter, Donna Harris; siblings, Charles McDuffie, Dorothy Coates, Leonard McDuffie, and Sarah Couliette.
