Kathryn Louise Walker, born on December 25, 1947, in Ronceverte, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. A remarkable individual, Kathryn dedicated her life to education and social service, making a lasting impact on the community she loved.

Her career began as a physical education teacher with the Hoke County public schools, where she shared her passion for fitness and well-being with countless students. She later transitioned to child protective services as a social worker with the Cumberland County Department of Social Services, advocating for children and families in need, a testament to her unwavering commitment to the welfare of others.

Kathryn was a proud graduate of West Forsyth High School and Appalachian State University, both institutions helping to mold the incredible woman she would become. Known for her wonderful dry sense of humor and her enduring love for her family, she brought joy to those around her. Her home was often filled with laughter, and she cherished the memories created with her loved ones, including the special tradition of having a birthday party on Christmas Day.

An avid lover of plants, Kathryn had a talent for gardening that blossomed alongside her nurturing spirit. Her enjoyment of knitting provided her with a peaceful outlet, and weekends spent at the beach with friends were among her favorite ways to relax and recharge.

Kathryn reveled in her role as a grandmother, wearing her title of "Nana" with great pride. She leaves behind her son, Michael Hatem; granddaughter, Ashleigh Hatem; grandson, Michael Hatem, II; brothers Chris Walker and Stephen Walker; sister Judy Wilson; and sister-in-law Joanne Walker. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Jack and Jane Walker, her brother, John Walker, and dearly missed grandson, Ryan Malcom.

Kathryn L. Walker will be fondly remembered for her kindness, dedication, and love of family. Her spirit and warmth will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
