Jean Sloan Duncan

Jean Sloan Duncan, 91, passed on to heaven November 10, 2022.  She rejoices being with her Savior Jesus and reuniting with her husband and love of her life, James Duncan.

Jean was born on July 7, 1931, to Ruth and J.P. Sloan in Etowah County, Alabama.  Jean and James married young and were blessed with four children and a marriage of over seven decades.  They loved and supported one another and their family for a lifetime.

Family members left to cherish Jean’s memory are her daughters Juanita Duncan Kilgore and Deborah Tolar (David), her son Kenneth Duncan, her sister Kathleen Jerabek, her grandson Preston Kilgore (Ranell), her granddaughters Chamagne DeSalvo (Dominic), Holli Redding (Jim Ed), and Erica Bailey (Brian), and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jean was gentle, kind, caring, generous, thoughtful, and compassionate.  She was always quietly supportive, never interfering in other’s business, but always willing to help.  Jean loved to travel and see it all.  She and James were blessed to live in Hawaii when the children were young.  They took lots of anniversary vacations there over the years.  They also lived in Germany and visited several European countries, taking campsite vacations.  They had a motor home for years and took wonderful trips in the US.  They loved going to gospel sings.

Jean was very artistic and creative, with a beautiful capacity for wonder.  She would bring beautiful things to our attention, like the many different shades of green in the trees.  She painted lots of beautiful pictures.   She encouraged artistic endeavors in her children and grandchildren, gifting their art and her own to people she loved.  She was very positive and noticed all the good things about people.

Jean was very open and loving and kind.  She was a wonderful homemaker, generous and warm and welcoming.  She made the best biscuits in the world.

Jean loved her family, extended family, friends, neighbors, and everybody so well.  She loved people and wanted to keep up with them and find out what was going on in their lives.  She was constant, consistent, and dependable.  She was so very appreciative of everything anybody did for her.  So, if you ever called, or visited, or sent a card, or prayed, or helped her in any way, thank you.  It meant a lot to her.

Services are Saturday, November 19th at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, visitation at 11:00a.m., funeral service at 12:00p.m., and will conclude with her burial at Lafayette Memorial Park.
