US Army SFC (Ret) Jan Wiatr

Jan Wiatr, a long time resident of Fayetteville and Polish native, passed away peacefully on July 9th 2023 at his home at the age of 96.

He became a Lodge Act enlistee during 1952 serving in what is now known as America’s Foreign Legionnaires before volunteering for Special Forces. Jan proudly served in 77th SFG(A), 10th SFG(A) as one of “The Originals”, 7th SFG(A), 6th SFG(A), and 5th SFG(A) where he had a distinguished career.  

He is survived by his loving wife Roswitha, devoted daughter Susan and her husband Reese, adoring granddaughter Ashley and her husband Tim, and amazing great grandchildren Autumn and Jake.

The family will welcome friends and family at 12pm on Thursday July 20th 2023. The graveside service will include full military honors at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
