Jace Caden Mendoza

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Jace Caden Mendoza, a bright light that shone brightly in the lives of all who knew him. Born on April 20, 2009, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, Jace left this world unexpectedly on January 16, 2026, at the tender age of 16.

From his early years, Jace’s insatiable curiosity and love for learning endeared him to many. He was known for his quiet humor and wit, often affectionately referred to by those close to him as “12.” A standout student at Cape Fear High School, Jace had dreams of pursuing a career in Aerospace Engineering—a testament to his inquisitive mind and boundless aspirations.

Jace was not only academically gifted but also had a profound passion for nature. He loved hiking and exploring the great outdoors, whether he was rock climbing or rappelling off the side of a rock. One of his proudest accomplishments included successfully hunting his first doe just a few months ago, reflecting his adventurous spirit and love for nature.

Jace had a special affinity for gaming that brought him joy and connection with others. He took great pride in his achievements within the gaming community, especially in Roblox, where he achieved an impressive ranking in the Hall of the Fool. Beyond his love for gaming, Jace was an avid reader and enjoyed drawing—activities that allowed him to express his creativity and imagination.

Family meant the world to Jace. He is survived by his loving mother, Aimee Penebacker and her partner Brandon; his father, Adrian Mendoza and his partner Stephanie; and his siblings Caleb, Kaylei, Aaliyah, Jayla, Keira, Danai, Aviel, Lucas and Elijah, Noah. He also leaves behind beloved grandparents Mable Dotson, Charles Dotson, Diana Walters, Cecilia Mendoza, and Faritt Mendoza, along with his cherished nephew, Ezra, and niece, Ayliana, and a multitude of family and friends who will deeply miss his kind-hearted soul.

As we remember Jace, we take comfort in the memories of his adventurous spirit, his unwavering helpfulness, and the joy he brought into our lives. Jace Mendoza was a remarkable young man whose presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of kindness, curiosity, and passion for life will continue to inspire and uplift all who had the privilege of knowing him.
