Helen L. Brown

Helen Albert Brown, 90, of Charlotte, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away at her residence on Friday, April 21, 2017.

She was born in Pulaski, VA on August 22, 1926 to the late Cabell M. and Opal Williams Albert.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ed Brown; brothers, Doug “Sonny” and Tommy Albert; and step-mother, Eula Williams Albert.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Brown of Charlotte; special friend, Marcheta Campbell of Claremont; her beloved dog, Lucy; and many special nieces and nephews.  In addition, she was a special “GaGa” to Miss Katie Rush and Mr. Ethan Campbell and neighbor to Joy McAuley.

Before her relocation to Charlotte to be closer to Cheryl, she was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.  She loved to travel and visited many exciting places, including Rome, Italy, at age 72, the Grand Canyon, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.  The family took a couple of special trips to Walt Disney World, and she was called to the stage for a comedy skit on her 50th wedding anniversary, October 28, 2000.  She loved Myrtle Beach and spent a week there every summer for over 40 years.  She was dedicated to weekly visits to the beauty parlor, even on the last day of her life, and never left the house without her lipstick.  She will be remembered for the funny way she would call her husband, “ED!!!”, and refer to her daughter, Sugarplum.  She always had a “fiddlesticks” response in funny situations and loved baking pecan pies for holidays and church barbeques.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who gave their love and time, including, Sallie Black, Pauline Caldwell, Sabrena Abernathy, Twanika Link, Curleen Crank and Roberta Dula.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC.  Funeral services will follow at 2pm, and conclude with a burial at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC  28303.
