Gloria Joan Wegner, age 86, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Lovely Care Inc. Assisted Living in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Gloria was born December 1, 1936 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Leola Pennington Bawks. Gloria graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School in 1955. She lived in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan until the age of 22 where she met Clarence Allen Wegner, Jr. (deceased January 1, 1993) on a blind date and married him on her 22nd birthday (December 1, 1958). Shortly after they married, they moved to Hawaii and their journey began.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Allen Wegner, Jr., and her son, Larry Frank Wegner. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Bawks.
After suffering a heart attack in July of 2019 and no longer able to live on her own, Gloria lived with her daughters. She would rotate from one daughter to the next daughter every 4 months – Fargo, ND to Jackson, GA to Wade, NC. Her daughters did this for just over 3 years until it became more and more challenging to care for her at home. About a month prior to her heart attack, her daughters took Gloria to her hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and visited family and familiar places from her childhood. Little did her daughters know this vacation would be more meaningful than they could have realized at the time.
Gloria is survived by her daughters Linda Wegner Banks and her husband, Harold Banks, of Jackson, Georgia; Donna Wegner Keen and her husband, Wilbur Joseph Keen, of Wade, North Carolina; Pamela Wegner Shinn and her husband, Bryan Shinn, of Fargo, North Dakota. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren: Christy Baker Combs, Rebecca Banks Sullins, Justin Baker, Joseph Keen, Hannah Keen Fiddler, Sarah Keen Klekamp, Scott Wegner, Luke Wegner, Sam Wegner, Danny Shinn, Ashley Shinn Anderson, and 9 great grandchildren: Madeline Combs, Molly Sullins, Gavin Combs, Sawyer Keen, Amos Keen, Jehu Keen, Ellie Fiddler, Abram Klekamp and Eden Klekamp.
