Gloria Senie Rhoden, a woman of indomitable spirit and deep faith, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on December 31, 1954, Gloria lived a life marked by her strong mind and unwavering will, guided always by her spiritual devotion and God-fearing nature.
Gloria's presence was one of strength and grace. She faced life's challenges with resolute courage and a profound sense of purpose. Her spirituality was a cornerstone of her identity, and she remained steadfast in her faith throughout her journey. Friends and family remembered her not only for her determined spirit but also for the warmth and love that she extended to those around her.
Among Gloria’s cherished interests was her love for unicorns. She cultivated an extensive and elaborate collection that reflected her whimsical and joyful spirit. The beach was another place close to her heart—a sanctuary where she found peace and renewal.
Gloria is survived by her loving family who stood faithfully by her side. Her brother, Jackson Prevatt, remains a devoted family member. She is also survived by her daughter, April Acosta, and husband Julian; and her son, Christopher Ruis. Gloria’s legacy extends into the next generations through her grandchildren: Sommer Magee; Jonathan and his wife Lorice; Jeremy Ruis and his wife C'Airah; Brandon Ruis; Austyn Ruis; Caleb Whiteside; Zoie Whiteside; Ian Ruis; Brittany Ruis; December Ruis; Autumn Ruis; and Dylon Ruis. Additionally, her great-grandson, Jonah Ruis, carries forward the family line. Gloria’s extended family includes many nieces and nephews who also held her dear.
Her family’s hearts bear the memory of those who preceded her in death, including her daughter Leslie Whiteside, both her parents, and siblings—a brother and sister—whose absence is deeply felt.
Gloria Senie Rhoden’s journey on this earth was one of resilience, faith, and love. She passed surrounded by the support and comfort of family and friends who cherished her deeply. Her spirit and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew her, a lasting testament to a life well lived.
