Fredrick Wilson Moore, affectionately known to friends and family as Fred or Ricky, passed away peacefully at his home on May 14, 2026, after a courageous and long battle with cancer. Born on May 9, 1945, in Erwin, North Carolina, Fredrick lived a life marked by resilience, devotion, and warmth until the age of 81.
A Navy veteran who honorably served aboard an aircraft carrier, Fredrick's dedication to his country was a defining chapter in his life. Following his military service, he channeled his determination and skill into building a successful plumbing company, establishing himself as a respected businessman in his community. Those who knew him well remember his indomitable spirit, having survived harrowing ordeals including being buried alive, multiple automobile accidents, bouts with pleurisy, an aneurysm, and undergoing triple bypass surgery. Through each challenge, Fredrick’s perseverance and positive outlook never wavered.
Fredrick was well loved by all who met him. He was known for his quirky sayings such as "I heard that" and "Lord willing, and the creek don't rise," a phrase inspired by James 4:15, reflecting his grounded faith and genial nature. Never one to meet a stranger, he was always a loyal friend, embodying warmth and hospitality. Friday nights were especially treasured moments for Fredrick, often spent drinking beside a fire with family and loved ones—an enduring memory that will live on in the hearts of those close to him.
A devoted family man, Fredrick’s proudest accomplishment was the life he built with his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Headden. Together for 63 years, their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership. He is survived by Patricia, their children Debbie Moore, Timothy Moore and wife Tammy, Kevin Moore and wife Teresa, and Chris Moore. He was a cherished grandfather to Stephan Ortiz, Nathan Knight, Jessica Moore, Matthew Moore, Cason Moore, and Brooke Moore, and a proud great-grandfather to Lyla Ortiz, Ren Kai Ortiz, Branson Bradshaw, Brian Bradshaw, Rylen Bradshaw, and Braiden Moore. Fredrick was also pleased to be surrounded by his three sisters, Glenda Newton, Judy Matthews, and Toni Walters. Among his closest companions was his faithful and beloved dog, Louie, and his dear Friday night drinking buddy Marshall Faircloth, along with Marshall’s wife Kathy and son Joey.
Fredrick was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Moore and Ludie Mae Norris Moore.
In his leisure time, Fredrick found joy in fishing, camping, and boating—hobbies that aligned with his love for the outdoors and serene moments in nature. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered as a man who embodied kindness, resilience, and a generous spirit.
A memorial service in honor of Fredrick Wilson Moore will be held on May 17, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service, located at 610 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina, 28301.
