FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Elizabeth Bond Wooten passed away on September 22, 2023, at  her home at Carolina Inn Assisted Senior Living.

She was born on May 29, 1936, the only child of the late Allen Edens Bond and the late  Elizabeth McKellar Bond of Rowland, N.C.

A former elementary school teacher in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg, Ft. Bragg and  Cumberland County school systems, she was a longtime animal lover and supporter of  the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (“FAPS”); a member of the Junior League of  Fayetteville, Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women of St. John’s Episcopal Church;  served those in need through volunteer work with Meals on Wheels; a robust,  adventurous traveler who realized a lifelong dream of walking the Great Wall of China;  and a loving, cherished wife, mother and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Myers Wooten, Jr. of Fayetteville,  and their children, Thomas Lynn Wooten (Paul Russ) of Greensboro, N.C. and Elizabeth  McKellar “Ibby” Wooten (Peter Hoffmann) of Durham, N.C.

Per her wishes, an open graveside service will be held at Cross Creek Cemetery (Section  3) in Fayetteville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, immediately followed by a  visitation and reception nearby at the Kyle House next to St. John’s Episcopal Church,  302 Green St.

Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family wants to thank the professional and caring teams of the Carolina Inn,  including her lead nurse caregiver, Annie Alejandre, and Bayada Hospice, all of whom  provided such compassionate care over the past year.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish  to offer a remembrance are asked to please consider a memorial gift to the Cumberland Community Foundation for the Wooten Endowment for FAPS, PO Box 2345, Fayetteville,  N.C. 28303, or a charity of your choice.
