Dr. Tryon D. Lancaster

Dr. Tryon Delano Lancaster, Sr., 89, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Carolina Rehab of Cumberland.

Tryon was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, educator, and pastor. As an educator, Tryon served Cumberland County Schools as a teacher, principal, and associate superintendent for more than 30 years.  He also worked in the School of Education and Office of Church Affairs at Methodist University.  Additionally, Tryon served as a pastor at Wesley Heights United Methodist Church and Saint Matthews United Methodist Church. He was active in his community and many volunteer organizations.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Haymount United Methodist Church. The burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.

Tryon is survived by his wife, Anne; children, Sarah Lancaster, Paige McMillan, Del Lancaster, and James Lancaster (Kendra); grandchildren, Duncan McMillan (Ryan), Hannah McMillan (Landis), Jay Lancaster and Jack Lancaster; sister-in-law, Helen Lancaster; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lizzie; siblings, James (Louise), Talmadge (Earlene), Alberta (Jennings), Reece (Lea), and Maurice; and son-in-law, Mack.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 in the Commons Room at the church.

Tryon’s family would like to thank all the caregivers who have provided such loving attention and care over the past several months, especially Marie Melvin and caretakers from Home Instead, Bayada Hospice, and Carolina Rehab.
