CPT (Ret) John S. Kotz

US Army CPT (Ret.) John S. Kotz, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

He was born on January 25, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Brigitte; and daughter, Dorothy.

John proudly retired from the US Army after 20 years of service.  He was a Green Beret who earned numerous commendations while he served in Germany, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and many other locations around the world.  After his retirement he began another career at Fayetteville Technical Institute.  When he retired from FTI his responsibilities included Occupational Extension where he helped students bridge their skills into potential employment.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his sons, Michael Kotz (Jody) and Eric Sachmann (Tiffany); grandchildren, Chris Kotz (Carrie), Erica Kotz, and Jennifer Kotz; 7 great grandchildren; and numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service honoring John’s life will be announced in the coming days and will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
