Asmarer “A.J.” Goodwin, 23, of Fayetteville, went to meet his heavenly father on Thursday, June 5 ,2025.
He was born in Hilton Head, SC on April 2, 2002, to Sandra Walker. As a child, A.J. loved video games, riding bikes and amusement parks. As he grew into his middle school years, he loved the sport of basketball. There was never a day, where you couldn’t find A.J. at a basketball court or a recreation center. He also loved hip hop and at any given day, you could catch him in a bathroom rapping lyrics to one of his favorite songs. Didn’t matter what time of the day it was. A.J. loved people and had the biggest heart. Anytime you came in his presence, he left a mark on you. He was a free spirit and had a smile that could light up the night sky. His greatest joy was the birth of his daughter on June 4, 2022. He knew he wanted to give his daughter a better life than he had and was working towards that.
A poem dedicated to my son…
Something will remind me
I never know just when,
It might be something someone says
And it all comes back again
The times we spent together
The happiness, the fun
Once again, I feel the pain
Of life without my son
It’s said that time’s a healer
I’m not sure this is true,
There’s not a day that goes by Son
That I don’t cry for you
Love, Mom
Acknowledgements
Special appreciation to D’Andra “Moody” Shields and Mya “Lil Momma” Walker. Once news was made about the passing, you both have been by my side in every aspect of this traumatic ordeal. You both help with the planning and been my listening ears when I needed someone to listen while also grieving, in your own ways, for your brother. You’ve experienced my many emotions and we were able to comfort each other in times of need. I will be forever grateful for your support.
Mom
