Anne Denton Lancaster

Sallie Anne Denton Lancaster, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Anne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, and nurse. After graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1956 and attending Highsmith Hospital School of Nursing, she began her nursing career in 1959. Anne provided children and families with exceptional care at the Fayetteville Children’s Clinic for over three decades.

From her childhood at Calvary UMC, she was a devoted United Methodist. Her marriage to Tryon brought her to Victory UMC where she became an active United Methodist Women leader. Then, she was a supportive spouse to her husband Tryon while he served at Wesley Heights UMC and Saint Matthews UMC. Anne loved to celebrate family birthdays and holidays and was known for baking elaborate cakes for her children and grandchildren. She was passionate about spending time in nature, particularly in her garden and in the mountains of Valle Crucis. Her strong sense of loyalty was apparent in her dedication to Duke basketball and her beloved pets.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Sullivan’s Highland Chapel. The burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.  The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Anne is survived by her children, Sarah Lancaster, Paige McMillan, Del Lancaster, and James Lancaster (Kendra); grandchildren, Duncan McMillan (Ryan), Hannah McMillan (Landis), Jay Lancaster and Jack Lancaster; sister-in-law, Helen Lancaster; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Tryon; her parents, Sallie and James; and son-in-law, Mack.

Anne’s family would like to thank all the caregivers who have provided such compassionate care over the past several months, especially Marie Melvin and caretakers from Home Instead and Bayada Hospice.

Memorials may be made to Valle Crucis Community Park at PO Box 581 Valle Crucis, NC 28691 or the Methodist Home for Children at 1041 Washington Street Raleigh, NC 27605-1259.
