Alvin Leroy Norris

Retired US Air Force TSgt. Alvin Leroy Norris, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Alvin was born March 18, 1936, in Erwin, TN, to the late Lewis and Julia Norris.  After finishing school, Alvin joined the US Navy where he served for three and a half years.  He then enlisted in the US Air Force, where he went on to proudly serve until his retirement in 1974.  During his time in the USAF, Alvin served in the Vietnam War.  Following the military, Alvin worked civil service at Ft. Bragg.   He was also ordained as a non-Denominational minister.

Alvin was a longtime member of Northwood Temple and it is where he became saved.  He loved attending Bible studies at Northwood, Cedar Falls Baptist and New Hope Baptist.  He also attended Carolina Bible College.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:30 am at Northwood Temple with Dr. John Hedgepeth presiding. The burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park with military honors.

Alvin is survived by his son, Michael Norris and wife Carol, of Fayetteville; daughter, Julie Morganti and husband David, of Shickshinny, PA; four grandchildren, Natalie Morganti, Matthew Norris, Jacob Norris and wife Jessica, and Scott Morganti and wife Clarissa; and great grandson, Daymian.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ginny Norris; and son, Lewis Norris.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, April 14, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm at Sullivan’s Highland.
