Alma "Billie" Burgess

Alma “Billie” Wade Burgess, 96, of Fayetteville passed away Wednesday December 14, 2011 at Carolina Inn.

Mrs. Burgess was born in Columbus Georgia on October 3, 1915.  She was the owner and manager of the Hanover Inn in Wrightsville Beach.  She was active in many civic and community affairs in Fayetteville for over 50 years.  Some of these groups include past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Active member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), Fayetteville Womens Club, Gray Lady for the VA Hospital, Active member of First Presbyterian Church, the last charter member of the Highland Country Club.

Mrs. Burgess was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Mrs. Burgess is survived by 2 sons, James A Burgess Jr. and wife Linda of Wendell and John M. Burgess and wife Jan of Fayetteville; a daughter Jeanette B. Greiner and husband Jim of Wrightsville Beach; 9 grand children, Jennifer Hauser and husband Sam, James Burgess and wife Christina, Fran Ashworth and husband Ed, Terri Ballenger and husband Allen, Fletcher Burgess and wife Nancy Beth, Beverly McArthur and husband Jamie, Becky Wise and husband Jack, Jamie Greiner and Jeff Greiner and wife Sheena; and 15 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday December 16, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John W. Cocker officiating.  The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday December 15, 2011 at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund: P.O. Box 569, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28302.
